VAL PROJECT
Kaliningrad, Russia
2016
Type: Visioning, Community Engagement
Community Partners: Vorota Art Center, Kaliningrad Zoo
Client: Fargfabriken Center for Art and Architecture, Stockholm, Sweden
A community visioning process for a greenway that revitalizes cultural, ecological and pedestrian connectivity along a former city wall. The city of Kaliningrad’s medieval core largely disappeared but its legacy is visible in the radial structure dating back to when the city was fortified with a system of city walls, ramparts (val, Russian) and moats.
We partnered with local cultural institutions and engaged visual artists, musicians, and experts to create an exhibition and a series of events that provided space for exploration and dialogue bringing together residents, local officials and experts.
Val project was supported by Fargfabriken Center for Art and Architecture, Stokholm, Sweden, Green Design Society, Moscow, Russia and Pictorica, Kaliningrad, Russia. In collaboration between Daniel Urey (Fargfabriken), Nick Butler (Green Design Society), Vasily Kolesnik and Pavel Grabalov.
